'Mental strength therapy': Anthony Joshua returns to the gym following car crash

British boxer Anthony Joshua has returned to the gym, as he continues to recover from a car crash which killed two of his close friends.

The former world heavyweight champion was injured in the crash in Nigeria in late December, which killed Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele.

In a video posted on Snapchat, Joshua is seen working out in the gym, hitting pads, exercising, and riding a stationary bike.

One of the clips carried the slogan “mental strength therapy”.

Ghami acted as his strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a trainer.

The incident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua’s driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was later charged.

The 46-year-old has had four charges brought against him – causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence, according to police.

Mr Kayode was granted bail of 5,000,000 Naira (£2,578) and was remanded pending his bail conditions being met. The case has been adjourned until January 20 for trial.

Footage on social media showed Joshua, 36, in pain and dazed as he was helped out of the wrecked vehicle. He was hospitalised, but later discharged.

On Wednesday, promoter Eddie Hearn said he believes Joshua will return to boxing when he has had time to heal.

He told Sky Sports Joshua will need time to “physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually heal before he makes a decision on his future.

“I do think he will want to return to boxing, but that will be his decision when the time is right.”
