McDonald’s is set to launch a retro-style beverage-led store with customisable drinks including s’mores cold brew, churro frappes and turmeric lattes.
The fast food giant said as a limited test it will open its first pilot site in Chicago near its headquarters this month, with a handful of additional outposts planned in the coming months in the US.
The proposed menu will see a range of specialty lemonades and teas, indulgent blended beverages and cold coffee including sour cherry energy slush, tropical spiceade and blueberry ginger boost.
Customers can customise the drinks with additions such as popping boba, flavour syrups, energy, and vitamin C.
The drinks will be offered alongside a savoury food offering which includes a spicy queso sandwich, savoury hash brown bites and pretzel bites served with dipping sauces.
The name for the new brand comes from a McDonaldland mascot, an alien from outer space that craves its food, which appeared in adverts in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
