Marks and Spencer has issued an urgent recall notice over soup cartons after it was found to contain pieces of metal.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the supermarket giant was issuing a “do not eat” warning over its Smooth Butternut Squash Soup.

The 600g pack size with a use by date of October 6 has been recalled due the potential presence of small traces of metal in a “small number of packs”.

Anyone who purchased the soup can return it to their nearest M&S store for a full refund.

An M&S statement read: “Please do not consume this product.

“Any customers in possession of this product can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given.

“No other M&S products are affected.

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Customers who require additional information can contact M&S on 033301 48555.
