A man has been arrested after video footage allegedly showed Scotland striker Oli McBurnie stamping on a football fan during a pitch invasion.

Nottinghamshire Police said they had been reviewing the contents of the clip taken during the fracas at the play-off semi-final match between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United on Tuesday.

It has been suggested the footage shows the Sheffield United player allegedly assault a supporter on the pitch.

Officers confirmed late on Thursday that they had arrested and interviewed a man in connection with the incident.

They said a 25-year-old presented himself to police on Thursday afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on police bail.

Detective Inspector Nicholas Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are working hard to understand the sequence of events depicted in this video and have now interviewed a suspect.

“As our investigation continues we would like to speak to any other witnesses who have not yet come forward.”

Anyone with additional information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 754 of May 18.
