A light aircraft has made an emergency landing on a dual carriageway road in Gloucestershire.

The plane was forced to land on the A40 Golden Valley, near Cheltenham, at around 6pm on Thursday.

Emergency services were on the scene and Gloucestershire Constabulary said no injuries were reported.

A statement by the force said: “We were called shortly before 6pm [on Thursday] with a report a light aircraft had landed on the A40 Golden Valley.

“No one was injured and it is understood that no other vehicles were involved. We remain at the scene while work takes place to re-open the road.”

The A40 was closed in both directions between the A417 and M5 junction 11 was closed for nearly two hours as emergency crews dealt with the “aviation incident”.

Officially called The London to Fishguard Trunk Road in all legal documents and Acts, the A40 is a major trunk road between London and Goodwick, Wales.
