Kellogg’s recalls chocolate flavoured Corn Flakes over ‘choking hazard’

Kellogg’s has urged people not to eat a certain flavour of Corn Flakes which have been deemed a “choking hazard”.

The Food Standards Agency issued a food alert on Wednesday that the cereal giant are recalling chocolate-flavoured Corn Flakes over “small hard lumps of food which have formed in the product”.

The lumps could cause dental harm or a choking hazard, said Kellogg’s.

All 450g boxes with a best before of December 6, 2024 to April 28, 2025 should not be eaten and returned to the store in which they were purchased.

Kellogg’s said original Corn Flakes flavour is not affected by the recall notice or any other Kellogg’s product.

The chocolate flavour cereal is a new product on sale since January 2024 and is available in Tesco, One Stop, Londis, Budgens, Booker Premier stores and Booker Cash & Carry outlets, said the company.

A Kellogg’s spokesman added: “We have become aware of a very low level of small hard lumps forming in our new Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Chocolate Flavour.

“These hard lumps of food could cause dental harm or be a choking hazard and as precaution we are recalling this product.

“Please note that Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Original is not affected, nor is any other Kellogg’s product.”

A spokesperson for Kellanova, the company that makes Kellogg’s cereals in Europe said: “Making good food which is safe and high quality is our number one priority at Kellanova.

“Clusters of cereal forming during production can be a normal occurrence and these usually break up when eaten or placed in milk.

“But, when we spotted that hard lumps of cereal were forming in a very small amount of our new Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Chocolate Flavour cereal, we took the decision to recall all product.

“It’s important to say that the risk of injury from these hard lumps of chocolate cereal is minimal but we’re not willing to compromise on quality or safety.

“We are asking customers and consumers to dispose of any product they have and contact us for a refund.

“We have also let the regulator know about this issue and are working with them on next steps.”

Customers are asked to dispose of the food safely and contact Kellogg’s for a full refund.
