Jaguar has unveiled its production-ready Type 01 for the first time.
It’s been nearly two years since the British brand showcased a new direction, with the original Type 00 concept’s debut in December 2024 met with fierce criticism at the time.
Now, however, that original concept has made it into production with a reveal in New York, USA.
PA MediaThe Type 01 arrives as a ‘luxury four-door GT’ which retains the elongated proportions of the original concept. Like that car, it has a low-slung roofline and long bonnet matched to a very short overhang. The headlights are also the slimmest ever fitted to a Jaguar and incorporate 17,000 pixels each.
As standard, the Type 01 sits on large 23-inch wheels, though Jaguar has said that smaller 21-inch versions are available for those who prioritise ride comfort.
PA MediaUnderneath, the Type 01 uses a platform which is new to Jaguar, and it’s one which incorporates a 118kWh battery which can deliver a claimed range of up to 450 miles. It’s also the most powerful Jaguar ever made, bringing 1,016bhp and 1,365Nm of torque for a 0-60mph time of around three seconds.
Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the Type 01 features a four-seater layout with a singular ‘spine’ running through the centre of the cabin. Like the original concept, it uses brass in its design to give the car a more old-school feel.
PA MediaUp front is a 24-inch OLED screen placed ahead of the driver for all key information, while a secondary seven-inch readout is equipped between the driver and front passenger for additional features. There’s also a wraparound ‘Panoramic Soundbar’ for high-quality sound, and there are speakers mounted within the seats, too.
Rawdon Glover, managing director, Jaguar, said: “From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era. Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning.
“Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century.”
As yet, there is no confirmed price for the Type 01, though it’s expected that further details will be announced over the coming weeks.
