US President Donald Trump welcomed President Zelenskyy, alongside European leaders, to the White House on Monday for critical talks on the future of Ukraine over its war with Russia.
European leaders are seeking strong security guarantees for Ukraine, something which President Trump said the US could help to provide.
Here are some of the most striking photos from what could prove to be a crucial set of talks.
There was a warm welcome for the Ukrainian president as Trump greeted Zelenskyy at the door to the White House ahead of the talks.

The last time they met in February, Zelenskyy was berated by Trump and JD Vance in an infamous meeting that will go down as one of the biggest diplomatic disasters in history.
Six months later though, the White House shared a much friendlier picture of Trump and Zelenskyy walking through the White House moments after meeting.

Shortly afterwards, Zelenskyy and Trump sat with one another in the Oval Office, speaking to reporters.
The Ukrainian president thanked the First Lady Melania Trump, on behalf of his wife, after Melania sent a letter to President Putin pleading for peace on behalf of the children of Ukraine and Russia.

During their discussion, Trump said there was a “good chance” of ending the war through these meetings.
“I know the president, I know myself, and I believe Vladimir Putin wants to see it end,” Trump said.

Other European leaders were invited to attend the talks.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb were all in attendance.

Also there was the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

European leaders joined Zelenskyy at the White House to help facilitate talks with Trump on the future of Ukraine, in its war with Russia.

Zelenskyy and Trump, alongside representatives from across Europe, stood together for a family photo.

Sitting in the East Room, following that photograph, Trump recognised each European leader around the table, allowing them to each contribute to the conversation.

Notably, Trump appeared to go back on his earlier words where he called a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine “unnecessary.”
Instead, he said that “all of us would obviously prefer the immediate ceasefire while we work on a lasting peace.”
