A group of men were rescued from the Lake District National Park on Saturday, after they fell unwell from consuming magic mushrooms.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) received multiple reports from other hikers who had come across the group in the area at around 12.14pm.

Two in the group were feeling unwell, including the designated driver in the party.

The rescue mission on Stonycroft Beck involved 11 rescuers and took a total of two hours.

A KMRT spokesperson said: “The casualties were walked down and given advice by the team medic regarding the timing of their onward travel.”

Psilocybin mushrooms, more commonly known as magic mushrooms, contain a hallucinogenic chemical which can cause sensations of euphoria and hallucinations.

They are commonly used as recreational drugs and are similar to other hallucinogenic drugs, such as LSD.

Magic mushrooms grow in the wild, are often prepared by drying and are eaten by being mixed into food or drinks.
