Charlie Kirk was the number one overall Google search term in the UK in 2025, according to the annual search results list released by the tech company.
The American political commentator, who was fatally shot while speaking at a US college campus in September, also topped Wikipedia’s list of the year’s most-read articles worldwide.
The second-most searched term was Ozzy Osbourne, the Birmingham-born Black Sabbath frontman who died aged 76 in July this year from Parkinson’s disease.
Ed Gein, a notorious American serial killer, whose crimes were dramatised in the Netflix series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, came in third, while Adolescence, another series from the streaming giant, followed in fourth place.
The fifth most searched term was snow warning, an unsurprising inclusion given that parts of the UK have experienced low temperatures and cold snaps at both the start and end of the year.
Here are the top ten most searched terms in the UK in 2025, according to Google:
1. Charlie Kirk
2. Ozzy Osbourne
3. Ed Gein
4. Adolescence
5. Snow warning
6. India Vs England
7. Ricky Hatton
8. Diogo Jota
9. Club World Cup

Google’s report also exposed the most searched for questions, revealing that Britons used the search engine to remind them of the dates of public holidays such as Easter, VE Day, and Easter – and when to catch the latest episodes of Traitors.
The Celebrity Traitors star Cat Burns was the most searched-for female musician in the UK, while Oasis’s 2025 reunion made them the most searched-for male musicians.
The most searched-for film in the UK was Danny Boyle’s long-awaited horror movie, 28 Years Later and Liverpool striker Alexander Isak was the most searched-for athlete.
Speaking about the search trends, Google Trends expert Matt Cooke said: “Google Search is often a mirror to our collective mood, and in 2025 that reflection was distinctly British.
“It’s been a year defined by deep emotion — from the shared national grief for Ozzy Osbourne to the euphoria of the long-awaited Oasis reunion.
“Whether we were championing new icons like Cat Burns or dissecting every twist in The Celebrity Traitors, the trends reveal a country eager to connect, celebrate, and support its own.”
