Volodymyr Zelensky has hit back at Elon Musk after the billionaire polled Twitter users on his suggestions to end the war in Ukraine.

Musk proposed a redo of the referendums that took place in all four of the occupied areas of the country – the results of which declared their intention to join Russia.

The votes were swiftly described as fake and a sham, with the UK Government stating that they followed a pattern of “violence, intimidation, torture and forced deportations” in Ukraine.

In his Twitter poll, Musk, who has 107.8 million followers, indicated that elections should be held under UN supervision, with Russia leaving the country “if that is the will of the people”.

He also suggested that Crimea should be made formally part of Russia, while the water supply to the region should be assured.

The Tesla CEO, however, was swiftly rebuked by Ukrainian President Zelensky over his ideas.

In his own poll, aimed at Musk, Zelensky asked: “Which @elonmuck do you like more?”, with the options of; ‘One who supports Ukraine’, and ‘One who supports Russia’.
