Footage of the North’s rescue showed him being wrapped around with blankets after being saved by the RNLI
Radio presenter and I’m a Celebrity star Jordan North was rescued from the River Thames on Monday after jumping in to save a struggling Labrador dog.
Speaking on Capital Breakfast, North, 34, said he felt “a bit panicky and a bit nervy” while submerged in the Thames as members of the public used their phone torches to help him locate the dog.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) arrived “just in time” to find Jordan North sitting on a nearby float near Hammersmith Bridge with the dog, it said in a press release.
A video captured the incident, showing North being rescued by the RNLI and wrapped in blankets in near-pitch darkness.
Both North and the dog made it back to dry land safely.
“The real heroes here are the RNLI who came out and got me, put a blanket round me. They’re the heroes,” North said on the radio on Tuesday.
Thames Commander Gavin Simmons along with his team Sid Blake, Tom Coe and Cameron Crawley helped save the former BBC Radio 1 host.
“We are on call to help all those who find themselves in difficulty on the water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even our beloved pets!” Gavin said.
“While we’d always encourage people to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard instead of entering the water themselves, we’re happy that in this instance we were able to help Jordan and the dog safely back to dry land.”
On average, RNLI lifeboats launch over 100 times during the Christmas period every year, they said.
