In a three-horse race, Kylie Minogue looks to be the front-runner for Christmas Number One, as ITV News Entertainment Reporter Rishi Davda explains
Kylie Minogue, Wham! and Together For Palestine are battling out to secure this year’s Christmas number one single.
The winner will be announced by Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart on Friday, December 19 from 4pm.
The Australian pop star is currently in the lead with her festive single XMAS, according to the Official Charts Company.
If she manages to take the top spot, it will be her eighth UK number one single, but her first in 22 years.
Wham! has topped the charts for the last two years with their 1984 single Last Christmas.
The festive classic had a 39-year wait to secure the coveted title after it was beaten the year it was released by Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas?.
Meanwhile, charity single Lullaby by Together For Palestine was released on December 12, the day the UK’s Official Christmas Number 1 race kicked off.
Money raised from sales will raise funds for aid for people in Gaza.
The group is made up of a combination of UK and Palestinian musicians, including Bastille’s Dan Smith, Mabel, Celeste, Brian Eno and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, among others.
