Boy thrown from Tate Modern able to 'run, jump and swim,' family says

The French child was six years old when he was thrown from the tenth floor of the gallery's viewing platform.

The family of a boy who was thrown from a height at London’s Tate Modern gallery has said he has achieved his goal of “being able to run, jump, and swim again”.

The French child was six years old when he was thrown from the tenth floor of the gallery’s viewing platform by Jonty Bravery, then 17.

Bravery, who has autism, was in supported accommodation at the time of the attack but was allowed out unsupervised.

The unnamed child was on holiday with his parents in 2019 and survived the 100ft (30m) fall but suffered life-changing injuries, including a bleed on the brain and broken bones.

Six years on, the family has said in an update on a GoFundMe page, that their “little knight” has made “incredible” progress with running, jumping and swimming ahead of his next operation.

The post added: “He can’t do it like other children his age, of course, but we can no longer describe what he does in any other way than by saying it’s running, jumping, and swimming.

“It’s different, only over a few meters or a very small height, but it’s an incredible achievement.

“We are happy that he has been able to reach this stage of progress before his next operation.”

He also achieved a goal set between him and his father to ride a tricycle with his dad to the nearby beach.

Describing the moment as a “mission accomplished,” the family said the pair had several progressive training sessions before they made the journey.

Beyond the physical progress, they said he has continued with “cognitive endurance”.

“His memory skills are still very limited, but they are functional and still improving, so he is acquiring a general knowledge at his own pace, which increasingly allows him to be included with other children,” the family added.

The boy, who is now a now a pre-teen, is scheduled for another operation and will be immobilised for two months in early 2026, but the family hopes this will help his recovery and reduce his pain.

Bravery was convicted of attempted murder in 2020 and jailed for 15 years.
