Boris Johnson has called on world leaders to bring their “ambition and action” to COP26.

The Prime Minister made the call with just over a month to go ahead of the UN climate conference in Glasgow.

It is set to be one of the largest events ever held in Scotland, with delegates from across the globe attending.

Johnson insisted that bold commitments are needed in order to limit rising temperatures and make progress towards net zero emissions.

“We are fast-approaching a critical moment for our planet and our people, when – in just one month’s time – world leaders will gather in Glasgow for the long-awaited COP26 climate summit,” he said.

“We need everyone to bring their ambition and action, so we can limit rising temperatures and set the world on the right path to net zero emissions.

“That means bold commitments on coal, cars, cash and trees: to drive forward our green industrial revolution with clean energy and electric vehicles, close the gap on the climate finance promised to developing nations, and halt devastating deforestation.

“We’ve seen positive progress so far, but it isn’t enough. I look forward to meeting with leaders – from big emitters to climate vulnerable nations – to make sure COP26 counts.”

Preparations in Glasgow are ramping up ahead of the event, which will see a major policing operation in place.

Motorists have been warned of extreme traffic disruption, with large parts of the city centre locked down during the summit.

Protesters are being urged not to attempt any blockage of the Kingston Bridge during the summit, following the actions of climate activists blocking the M25 around London repeatedly.

Rail services could also face significant disruption during the event, with rail union RMT announcing it is balloting members over strike action in the ongoing pay dispute.

Scottish Labour’s transport spokesman Neil Bibby said that chaos caused by rail protests during COP26 would be “humiliating” for the Scottish Government.
