President Donald Trump has posted an AI-generated photo of a warship painted with a US flag lasering a plane with an Iranian flag.
The photo, posted on Truth Social, included the caption: “Lasers: Bing, Bing, GONE!!!”
The post comes as the US military said its forces have fired on and disabled two Iranian oil tankers on Friday, having exchanged fire with Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz overnight.
The president has insisted that the month-old ceasefire between the US and Iran is still in place.
Washington is waiting for Iran to respond to its latest proposal for a deal to end the war, reopen the strait and roll back Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hopes to receive “a serious offer” from Iran later on Friday.
The UAE’s defence ministry meanwhile said three people were wounded after air defences engaged two ballistic missiles and three drones launched by Iran. It was not clear if all were successfully intercepted.
It is not the first time the US president has used artificial intelligence to make photos related to the war with Iran.
In April, Trump shared a photo of himself wearing aviators and holding a gun in front of a backdrop of explosions.
The image included the strapline “No more Mr Nice Guy!”
Iran has mostly blocked the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, causing global spikes in fuel prices and uncertainty in global markets. The US then imposed its own blockade of Iran’s ports.
