At least ten people killed in shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach

Videos posted on social media appeared to show two men dressed in black, firing shotguns.

At least ten people have died after a shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, including one of the gunmen, sparking a major police and emergency services operation.

New South Wales Police have said the number of casualties is expected to change as the operation continues.

“Ten people have been confirmed dead, including a man believed to be one of the shooters. The second alleged shooter is in a critical condition.

“At this time, a further 11 people are reported to be injured, two of which are police officers.”

“A number of suspicious items located in the vicinity are being examined by specialist officers and an exclusion zone is in place. A multi-agency response is continuing.”

Police reported earlier that two suspects were taken into custody, and urged people to take shelter and avoid the area.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 6:45pm local time, after reports of gunfire.

A Jewish Hanukkah celebration was reportedly being held in the area of the shooting, although police have not confirmed if this event was a target.

Footage of two men wearing black and firing what appeared to be shotguns from a footbridge was also posted online.

Dramatic footage shows a man tackling one of the gunmen and wresting his shotgun away, before pointing it at the shooter.

Videos that appear to be taken later than show two men lying on their stomachs while being arrested by police.

In footage of officers arresting the assailants, a number of large ammunition cartridges, which appear to be shotgun shells, could be seen strewn across the ground surrounding them.

Officers were also seen performing CPR on one man, while another appeared to be in handcuffs beside him.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese released a statement, calling the scenes at Bondi “shocking and distressing”.

“Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected,” he continued.

“I just have spoken to the AFP Commissioner and the NSW Premier. We are working with NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed.”

“I urge people in the vicinity to follow information from the NSW Police.”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sent his condolences following a fatal shooting.

In a statement posted on X on Saturday morning, he said: “Deeply distressing news from Australia.

“The United Kingdom sends our thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by the appalling attack in Bondi Beach.

“I’m being kept updated on the developing situation.”
