Supermarket giant Morrisons is urging customers to use a code phrase in exchange for a free hot meal – no questions asked.

The chain’s cafes have teamed up with Heinz Beanz to “share a little comfort and warmth this winter”.

All customers have to do is ask for “Henry” at any Morrisons café, and they will be presented with a jacket potato with Heinz beans and salad, on the house.

The partnership expects to give out 160,000 free meals across the 397 UK cafés, starting from October 26.

They added the campaign was launched in the hope it will help families whose children are on half term break, but also to anyone else who needs it.

“Ask for Henry” is inspired by the work of Henry J. Heinz, founder of Heinz and philanthropist.

From a young age, he would cook with his mother in their family kitchen, using ingredients picked from their garden, to share with the local community.

Henry then went on to found Heinz, and was often quoted as saying “give all you can wisely”.

Jojo De Noronha, president northern Europe at Heinz said: “We want to honour his good heart and kind spirit by doing what he did best, helping feed people in times of need – and that’s why we’re launching ‘ask for Henry’ with our partner Morrisons on October 26.

“We believe everyone deserves the goodness, comfort and warmth a can of Heinz Beanz can bring, and whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we hope our ‘ask for Henry’ initiative can be of some help at this difficult time for many, particularly over half term.”

Sian Whittle, category director of Morrisons Cafés, said: “We know that our customers are under real financial pressure at the moment and are therefore pleased to be partnering with Heinz on its ‘ask for Henry’ initiative to offer customers a free jacket potato topped with Beanz.”
