A woman who drove with a workman on top of her bonnet after a dispute over a parking space has avoided jail.

Tracey Kelly, 57, ploughed into the man in Glasgow’s Partick on November 14 last year.

The pair had an earlier verbal exchange amid claims the man was parked too close to Kelly’s car.

The workman went on to stand in front of Kelly’s vehicle before she drove off and took her victim along with her.

She went on to do an emergency stop, which resulted in the man hitting the ground and suffering injuries.

Kelly pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to the man’s severe injury, impairment and danger of life.

On Thursday, Sheriff Michael Hanlon tagged Kelly for 12 months, keeping her indoors between 7pm and 7am. The tag will be weekend-only for the last three months of its duration.

Kelly, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was also put under supervision for 12 months.

The court previously heard that the victim was working at a property on Hayburn Crescent and his van was outside.

Kelly – who was behind the wheel of a Renault Captur – was parked behind the workman’s van.

Prosecutor Katie Malcolm said: “Kelly got in her vehicle and intended to drive away, however, due to [the man’s] van being parked close to her, she found it difficult to drive out the space.

“This caused an argument between them, and [the man] walked away to continue his work but returned shortly after when the argument continued.”

Kelly drove away but the man stood in front of her car to stop her from leaving.

Ms Malcolm stated: “Kelly drove her vehicle which caused it to strike [the man] on the body.

“[He] grabbed hold of the bonnet and Kelly accelerated on the road.

“[He] remained on the bonnet as Kelly drove her vehicle.

“She did an emergency stop at the end of the road and [the man] was thrown from the bonnet onto the road.”

Kelly drove away, and police and an ambulance attended the scene.

The man was taken to hospital and was found to be unable to put weight on his right foot.

There was swelling to his right heel and around his ankle. His foot was placed in a cast.

He was given crutches to use for nine weeks and was required to attend hospital visits. He was also unable to work.

Mobile phone footage of the incident was shown to the court.
