A passenger in the rear seat of a car has died following a two-car crash near Shotts.

The 63-year-old woman was pronounced dead a short time after the collision at the junction of the A71 and B715 around 12.50pm on Friday. Her next of kin are aware.

The crash involved two cars – a grey Ford Focus and a black Mercedes GLA.

The male driver of the Ford was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured.

The road was closed to allow an investigation to take place at the scene and has since reopened.

Sergeant Gary Stewart, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died.

“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances is ongoing and we would be keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have information.

“We would also ask anyone with dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.

“If you believe you can help please call 101, quoting reference 1559 of July 24.”
