Concerns have been raised over the welfare of a woman seen “wandering” around a Lanarkshire town “without clothing or footwear” in the early hours of the morning.

Eyewitnesses reported the woman was observed on two residential streets in Hamilton shortly after 4am on Monday, June 27.

It did not appear she was in any distress, however several people are understood to have contacted police after she was spotted on Avonbank Crescent and Silvertonhill Avenue.

Officers were unable to locate her during an initial “extensive” search of the area but said they remained worried over her state.

An appeal has since been launched for anyone with information or the woman herself to come forward and contact investigators.

Inspector Gail Nicol of Hamilton Police Station said: “We are concerned for the welfare of the woman and would encourage anyone who may have seen her to get in touch with officers.

“We would also urge the woman herself to contact us to let us know whether she is safe and well.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 0335 of June 27.”
