Woman rescued by lifeboat after breaking ankle on rocks near pier

A multi-agency rescue mission involving Loch Lomond Rescue Boat and Scottish Ambulance service was launched around 3.11pm on Wednesday.

A woman had to be rescued by lifeboat after falling on rocks and breaking her ankle near Loch Lomond.

A multi-agency rescue mission involving Loch Lomond Rescue Boat and Scottish Ambulance service was launched around 3.11pm on Wednesday.

Lifeboat teams were called in by police after the woman fell and broke her ankle close to Balmaha Pier.

After arriving on scene, the crew packaged the woman into a vacuum mattress.

With assistance from Scottish Fire and Rescue Services, the crew were able to carry the patient over “difficult” terrain before loading her into the lifeboat.

The woman was passed to paramedics in Balloch and taken to Royal Alexandria Hospital.

One ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 3.11pm on July 3, to attend an incident near Balmaha pier.

“One ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the patient was transported by lifeboat to Balloch.

“At Balloch, another ambulance transported the patient to the Royal Alexandria Hospital.”
