A woman has been reported after an XL Bully killed a dog and broke a woman’s arm in South Lanarkshire.
Officers launched an investigation after the XL Bully allegedly jumped over a fence and latched onto a Pomeranian’s neck on February 8.
A woman was then taken to hospital for treatment of deep puncture wounds and a broken arm.
The dog, an eight-year-old named Buddy, was taken to the vet, where he was put down.
Police Scotland have confirmed that a 22-year-old woman will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal following the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Around 2.35pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, we were called to a report of a woman and her dog injured by another dog in a garden on Station Road, Law.
“The woman attended hospital for treatment. The dog was taken to a vet with serious injuries and was put down.
“A 22-year-old woman is the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Emma Hoey, Buddy’s owner, told STV News that her two children were left “heartbroken” following the attack.
She said: “Me and my mum are just as heartbroken. Everywhere I look reminds me of him and I can’t wrap my head around the fact we won’t see him again. He didn’t deserve to die that way.”
In Scotland, it has been a criminal offence to own an XL Bully without a certificate or to have applied for one by August 1 last year.
Those convicted of not complying with the new rules face a maximum of six months imprisonment and a £5,000 fine.
