Woman raped in South Lanarkshire as police launch investigation

Police have launched an investigation after a woman was raped in South Lanarkshire.

The woman was seriously sexually assaulted in the area of Abernethy Park in East Kilbride shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

Officers will remain the area to carry out investigations and have asked anyone with any information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing in the area of Abernethy Park in Blantyre following a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman, which occurred shortly after 10pm on Tuesday, 8 September, 2026.

“Officers will remain in the area while investigations are carried out and anyone with any concerns, or information, is asked to approach them or contact 101 and quote incident 1402 of Wednesday, September 9, 2026.”
