Woman found dead and man charged after 'disturbance' at house

A 70-year-old man was charged with assault following the incident and will appear in court.

A woman has been found dead and a man has been charged after a “disturbance” at an address in Ayr.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address around 4.45pm on Saturday, March 2 on Whitletts Road in Ayr near the town’s racecourse.

A woman was found dead within the house with her death being treated as “unexplained”.

A 70-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault following the incident.

He will appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, March 3.

Police say enquiries to establish the full circumstances into the incident are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.45pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024, police were called to an address on Whitletts Road, Ayr, following a report of a disturbance. 

“On police arrival, a woman was found deceased within the house.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

“A 70-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with assault.

“He is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, 3 March, 2024.

“Enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.”
