A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being struck by a pick up truck in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services responded to reports of collision involving a female pedestrian and a orange Mitsubishi L200 pick up on Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen around 8pm on Saturday evening.

The 40-year-old woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as critical.

The 33-year-old male driver of the pick up was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”
