Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the pair got involved in a “heated argument” on Buchanan Street.
Prosecutor Lauren Aitchison said: “This argument was over money, and [the victim] felt insulted by the comments Dempster was making and asked her to go away.
“Dempster told her, ‘I don’t want a scabby fiver, I want £20 off you now’.”
The woman was stated to be “scared” and swung her shopping bag at Dempster to get away.
A struggle then took place between them.
Miss Aitchison added: “Dempster removed a bottle of ammonia from her bag and threw it over the head and body of [the victim].
“[The victim] screamed and felt burning to her skin.”
The woman removed her clothes at a Sainsbury’s and was later found by police on the floor.
She said: “My skin is burning.”
She was taken to hospital where she later discharged herself before medical treatment was given to her.
Dempster was traced and found in possession of the empty bottle of ammonia.
Dempster, of the city’s Govan, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
She also admitted assaulting the victim to her injury.
The sentence was deferred pending background reports until the end of the month by Sheriff Michael Hanlon, who continued Dempster’s remand in custody.
