A woman has died following a fire at a flat in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the scene at a property on Speirshill Close in Yoker on Tuesday around 9.35am.

A 60-year-old woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital. She later died of injuries on Wednesday.

Four fire engines were called to the scene to extinguish the flames.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.35am on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, police received a report of a fire at a flat in Speirshill Close, Yoker, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and a 60-year-old woman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary hospital in Glasgow where she died late on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death nor the fire.  A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Area commander David Murdoch is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s local senior officer for City of Glasgow.

He said: “We were alerted at 9.06am on Tuesday, March 7 to reports of a dwelling fire at Spiershall Close, Yoker, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a tenement flat.

“One woman was taken to hospital. Sadly, she later passed away.

“Our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.”
