A woman has died after being hit by a car and becoming trapped underneath while lying on the ground in a lane in Glasgow City Centre.
Emergency services were called to the heart of Glasgow’s financial district on Wellington Street at around 2.40pm on Tuesday following reports of the collision.
The 40-year-old woman had been dropped off on Wellington Lane before being struck by a car while lying on the ground.
Two fire engines were and a heavy rescue unit were sent to the scene to assist the woman who had become trapped under the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed.
The driver of the car was uninjured.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a joint investigation between Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is now underway.
The collision sparked a large emergency service response with two fire engines, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and more than a dozen police vehicles at the scene.
The area was cordoned off and drivers were urged to find alternative routes.
Wellington Street was reopened at 5.40pm.
Detective sergeant Sean McLoughlin said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this incident. A family has lost a loved one and it’s imperative we provide answers as to how that happened. If anyone has any information, who has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch.”

Area commander Andy Kenna, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s local senior officer for Glasgow, added: “We were alerted at 2.51pm on Tuesday to reports of a person trapped under a vehicle on Wellington Lane, Glasgow.
Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit to the area, where firefighters assisted emergency partners.
“Sadly, one person passed away at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with their family, friends, and the wider community at this difficult time.
“A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland colleagues is now ongoing.”
