A woman has been charged in connection with a series of attacks on Barclays branches in Scotland’s three largest cities.

The 37-year-old is alleged to have targeted the bank’s Argyle and Waterloo Street premises in Glasgow on Friday, May 20 before moving on to outlets in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The prominent Princes Street and Union Street locations were attacked on Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24 respectively.

A ‘large hole’ was left in the glass frontage of the capital branch, according to eyewitnesses.

The woman has now been arrested and charged and will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A Police Scotland statement read: “A 37-year-old female has been charged in connection with the vandalism of business premises in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“She has been arrested and charged in connection with incidents on Union Street in Aberdeen on Tuesday, May 24, at Princes Street, Edinburgh on Monday, May 23 and Argyle Street and Waterloo Street in Glasgow on Friday, May 20.

“She is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 26.”
