A woman and six-year-old girl who died in a crash in East Ayrshire have been named as a mother and daughter.
Emergency services were called to the A76 near the junction with the B713, between Catrine and Auchinleck around 5pm on Tuesday following the single-car crash.
A six-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 32-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she died a short time later.
They have been named as Rebecca Hill and her daughter, Arianna Aliu.
The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for investigations to take place.
Police have thanked members of the public who stopped to help and called emergency services.
They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
Inspector Kenny Malaney said: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident at this extremely difficult time. Specialist officers are assisting Rebecca and Arianna’s family.
“We would like to thank the members of the public that stopped to help and made the call to the emergency services.
“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have been in the area at the time, to contact us.
“I am also keen to speak to anyone who have may dashcam footage showing the Passat prior to the crash.
“Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident 2596 of September 24, 2024.”
