A woman and her dog have died after being struck by a car while crossing a road in Port Glasgow.
Emergency services were called to the A8 on Greenock Road around 7.05am on Wednesday.
Amy Gray, from Port Glasgow, and her dog Reggie were struck by a Land Rover Sport as they crossed the eastbound carriageway of the road.
Emergency services attended but both the 42-year-old and the dog died at the scene. Their family is aware.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
The driver of the Land Rover was not injured. The road reopened on Wednesday afternoon.
Sergeant Patrick McWilliams, Police Scotland Road Policing, said: “We have specialist officers with Mrs Gray’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“I’d ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who have dashcam footage of the incident, to contact police.”
