Woman airlifted to hospital after horse and cart accident

Scottish Fire and Rescue dispatched two fire engines and a heavy rescue unit to the scene to assist one casualty.

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after an incident involving a cart and horse in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A75 trunk road from U258 around 5pm on Thursday.

Two fire engines and a heavy rescue unit were sent to the scene to help with the injured woman then airlifted to hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.50pm on Thursday, August 1, 2024, we received a report of an incident involving a horse and cart on the A75 trunk road from U258.

“A woman was taken to hospital for treatment.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were requested at 4.37pm on Thursday, 1 August, to assist emergency service partners following reports of a female casualty in difficulty following an incident at Kirkclaugh House near Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas.

“Two fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit were mobilised to the scene, where crews assisted one casualty.

“The casualty was transferred into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service personnel and airlifted to hospital.”
