Woman, 94, airlifted to hospital after car crashes onto rocks at harbour

HM Coastguard assisted emergency services after a car went over a wall in Port William on Tuesday afternoon.

A 94-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital after a car crashed over a wall and onto rocks in Port William.

Emergency services and HM Coastguard Portpatrick were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A747 near Port William Harbour at around 2pm on Tuesday.

A woman, 94, was taken to hospital by air ambulance, while a 70-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The road was closed and reopened at around 6.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, we were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A747, Port William.

“Emergency services attended, and a 94-year-old woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance. A 70-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment.

“The road reopened around 6.30pm.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
