Woman, 88, dies after being hit by lorry while crossing road

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a lorry in Largs.

The 88-year-old woman was crossing Main Street around 10.05am on Wednesday when she was struck by the HGV.

Emergency services attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 51-year-old HGV driver was uninjured.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

“We urge anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

“We ask any drivers on Main Street around the time of the crash to check their dashcam footage, and please get in touch if it holds anything which may be relevant to our investigation.”
