Woman, 85, dies in hospital after being struck by van on road 

Police are appealing for information into the incident that took place on Saturday.

A woman has died after being struck by a van in Stranraer.

The 85-year-old was walking on Scheuchan Street near its junction with Park Lane when the fatal collision took place at around 10.20am on Saturday.

The vehicle has been described as a white Vauxhall Vivaro van.

Emergency services attended, and she was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

No one else was injured.

The road was closed for crash investigation work and re-opened at around 7.15pm.

Police are now appealing for information as they look to establish the full circumstances.

Sergeant Scott Costley said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. Also, if you were driving in the area please check any dash-cam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
