Police have launched an appeal for information after a woman was raped in a hotel room in Coatbridge.

The 44-year-old was attacked at the accommodation in the Main Street area at around 2am on Sunday October 15.

Officers believe she met the attacker at a taxi rank nearby after leaving a bar in the area earlier in the evening.

He is described as being in his 40s, around 5ft 10in tall and of medium build with short light brown hair.

The man was wearing dark jeans, dark shoes and a blue zipper top with white trim around collar at the time, officers say.

Detective inspector Lorraine Wilson said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.

“The woman involved had been in a bar on Main Street during the evening of Saturday, October 14, prior to making her way to a nearby taxi rank where she met the man. We would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything of note in the area to get in touch.

“If you can help please call 101, quoting reference 3310 of October 15, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
