A woman has died and two men are in hospital after a two-vehicle crash on the A71 in Ayrshire.
Officers were called to the scene of the crash between Newmilns and Darvel around 11.05am on Thursday, which involved a red Ford Focus Zetec and a silver Mercedes Vito.
A 27-year-old woman, the driver of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 24-year-old man, a passenger in the Ford, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Crosshouse University Hospital in Kilmarnock with non-life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for several hours to allow for crash investigations to take place and re-opened around 9pm on Thursday.
Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at what is a difficult time for all.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“In particular, if you were driving in the area at the time please check your dash-cam to see if you have anything that could help with our investigation.”
