A violent rapist from Yorkshire who attacked two women in Scotland has been jailed for 12 years.

James McCall was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on April 16, after being convicted of nine charges.

The campaign of abuse – which spanned between 2007 and 2019 – saw the 49 year-old rape both victims.

McCall’s crimes occurred at different addresses in Lanarkshire, including Uddingston and East Kilbride.

The court heard how McCall had a violent temper, he would rant and swear at his victims, assault them, try to track their movements and control their finances.

Jurors convicted him of two charges of raping one of the victims while she was asleep and unable to consent.

He was put on the sex offenders list and non-harassment orders banning him from contacting or going near the victims were also imposed, both for an indefinite period.

McCall denied the accusations.

Judge Lord Colbeck said McCall had taken advantage of the victims in “the most appalling manner imaginable”.

He added: “You minimise the severity of the conduct. You attribute blame to each of your victims.”

The judge told McCall the women’s impact statements detailing how they suffered made “truly harrowing reading”.

Lord Colbeck said: “It is clear your offending has occasioned what can be described as severe psychological harm and trauma.”

Katrina Parkes, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, said: “The despicable behaviour of James McCall has caused untold trauma to victims and their families. I commend the bravery of these women in speaking out.

“Because of them, our expert prosecutors were able to ensure McCall has faced the consequences of his vile offending.

“I would urge all victims of similar criminal behaviour to come forward, report it and seek help. We will use all tools available to us to pursue justice.”
