Van driver arrested after ‘murder’ of 23-year-old bus driver Gordon Stirling on A77 in Ayrshire Police Scotland

A man has been arrested following a crash in Ayrshire, which killed a 23-year-old bus driver.

Gordon Stirling passed away in hospital almost a week after the incident, which involved a single-decker Stagecoach bus and a Ford Transit van on the A77 near Galston, on August 14.

The 23-year-old from Crosshouse was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life threatening injuries after the crash, where he later died.

Police later confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched following the 23-year-old’s death.

The 42-year-old van driver was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries, where he remains.

It is understood that he has now been arrested in connection with Mr Stirling’s death.

Police said that extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 3147 of August 14.
