Urgent ongoing search for woman in River Kelvin after man rescued from water

Emergency services were called to a report of concern for two people in the water in Glasgow's West End.

There is an urgent ongoing search for a woman after an incident in Glasgow’s River Kelvin on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to a report of concern for two people in the water near to Eldon Street in the city’s West End shortly before 6pm.

A man was rescued by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed that a search for a 59-year-old woman are still ongoing.

As the search entered a second day, police were seen searching the water in kayaks as part of the efforts to find the woman.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, we received a report of concern for two people in the water at the River Kelvin, near to Eldon Street, Glasgow.

​”A man was rescued by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Searches are ongoing for a 59-year-old woman who remains missing.”
