The University of Stirling has confirmed that 175 staff members have left the institution following the implementation of its recent voluntary redundancy scheme.

A spokesperson for the university said the Voluntary Severance Scheme (VSS) formed part of “several strategic measures designed to support long-term financial sustainability,” and was “carefully managed” with outcomes “decided based on business need.”

“The savings achieved through this Scheme and wider organisational efficiencies are intended to support our strategic priorities and improve operational effectiveness,” the spokesperson added.

According to figures released in notes to editors, of the 175 departures, 112 were professional services staff, and 63 were academic staff.

The university said the measures were aimed at ensuring long-term stability at a time when many higher education institutions across the UK are facing significant financial pressures.

A spokesperson for the University of Stirling said: “The Voluntary Severance Scheme (VSS) was one of several strategic measures designed to support long-term financial sustainability.

“The Scheme was carefully managed, and outcomes were decided based on business need, with 175 staff leaving the organisation as a result of VSS.

“The savings achieved – through this Scheme and wider organisational efficiencies – are intended to support our strategic priorities and improve operational effectiveness.”
