The University of Glasgow plans to build student housing with 460 bedrooms in the West End.
The new building, which forms part of major redevelopment taking place at the university, will sit at the corner of Church Street and Dumbarton Road.
Included in potential designs are shared kitchens, courtyards, and commercial units at ground level.
A design statement submitted to the council as part of a request for permissions, said: “The building will deliver the University’s first purpose built student residences for over 20 years at the heart of the city’s West End.
“Central to the project is the creation of an inclusive environment that prioritises the student experience.
“The primary goal is to offer students high-quality, close to-campus accommodation that meets the needs of our growing academic community and enriches our students overall university experience.
“This development will provide easy access to academic and extracurricular facilities, reducing commuting time and expense.”
The university has also applied for permission to partially demolish and redevelop neighbouring property Anderson College to enable the building to integrate with the student accommodation proposals.
A six storey “extension element to the rear of the building” is to be knocked down while the “L shaped element fronting Church Street and Dumbarton Road are retained” according to plans.
Planning permission in principle was previously granted for the proposals but now the university is seeking the go-ahead for the detail of the latest development.
The statement said: ” This approval of matters specified in conditions (AMSC) application will provide a high quality addition to the University of Glasgow’s existing residential portfolio.
“This will provide students with a first class residential facility at the heart of the Western Campus within easy access to a range of facilities around the site.”
Glasgow City Council is considering the application.
