The motorway westbound was shut for 40 minutes during rush hour after the two-vehicle collision at 7.50am near Junction 6.

Two women have been taken to hospital after a crash overturned a car forcing emergency services to close the M8.

Another woman has been charged following the collision involving two vehicles on the motorway near Junction 6A Chapelhall.

Traffic Scotland said both lanes westbound were affected by the crash which happened shortly before 7.50am.

The motorway was shut at 8.45am with delays of around 25 minutes.

Emergency services attended and two women were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 29-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the incident.

Trapped traffic could pass using the chevrons but vehicles could not join the M8 from the westbound entry slip road at Junction 6 Newhouse.

The road was closed for around 40 minutes before being reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving two cars on the M8 at Junction 6 westbound, around 7.50am on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

“Emergency services attended and two women have been taken to hospital for treatment.

“A 29-year-old woman has been charged in connection and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The road was closed for around 40 minutes to allow the vehicles to be recovered.”
