Two teenagers have been charged with the alleged possession of machetes following a disturbance in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to Main Street in Coatbridge at around 1.10pm on Tuesday following reports of an incident.
No injuries were reported following the disturbance. Two male teenagers, aged 16 and 14, were charged in connection with the possession of a bladed article.
A report is due to be sent to the relevant authorities. Police Scotland has confirmed that more uniformed officers will be visible in the town centre as an investigation is carried out.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.10pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, officers were called to a report of youths causing a disturbance in the Main Street area of Coatbridge.
“There were no reported injuries.
“Two male youths – aged 16 and 14 – were charged in connection with possession of a bladed article.
“A report will be sent to the relevant authority.
“Enquiries remain ongoing into the full circumstances and additional visible patrols have been allocated to the area.
“Anyone with any information can contact police by calling 101.”
North Lanarkshire Council confirmed that parents with children attending Coatbridge High School were notified of the incident.
Pupils returned to the school campus safely.
A spokesperson from the local authority said: “We are aware that an incident took place in Coatbridge on Tuesday March 25. Police Scotland were contacted and we are supporting them with their enquiries.”
