Two teenagers have been charged in connection with two “deliberate” house fires said to have caused around £500,000 of damage.

The boys, aged 13 and 14, have been charged with wilful fire raising following the incidents in Renfrewshire.

Two houses in the Merchiston Oval area of Brookfield were targeted on Friday night.

Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at Merchiston Oval at about 7.20pm on Friday and extinguished the flames.

No-one was injured by the fires but police said around a half a million pounds of damage had been caused.

The boys will be reported to the children’s reporter.
