Two suspects are to stand trial, charged with trying to kill a man who was allegedly struck by a car.

Declan Carlton, 30, and Adam Goss, 29, both appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.

Prosecutors claim a motor was driven at a 28-year-old man in Criffel Road, Dumfries, on May 17, 2025.

It is said he was hit, causing him to be flung across the bonnet and then end up on the ground.

The indictment states there were repeated attempts to strike him with a knife before he was hit on the head with a hammer.

The murder bid charge claims this was to the man’s severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of his life.

The case called for a short hearing on Monday.

Lawyers for the pair pleaded not guilty on behalf of each.

Prosecutor Alexandria Kirk said: “I would ask the court to assign a trial for April 7, 2027, for five days at the High Court in Kilmarnock.”

Lord Mulholland set that date and granted bail for Carlton and Goss, both of Dumfries, until then.
