Two flights which were heading to Seville on Wednesday morning were redirected to another Spanish airport after a technical fault.

Passengers on one flight from Glasgow and one flight from Frankfurt expecting to land in the Andalusian capital ahead of the Europa League Final on Wednesday had their flights redirected to Malaga after the meteorological service equipment at Seville airport had to be restarted.

The flight which departed from Glasgow landed at Malaga airport at 9.56am local time, with the Frankfurt flight landing shortly after at 10.10am local time.

Both flights were operated by Transavia.

Seville airport has confirmed that the airport is now operating again normally following the technical issue.

STV understands that the redirected flights refuelled at Malaga airport before flying back to Seville.

A spokesperson for Seville Airport told STV News: “There has been a technical problem with the airport meteorological service and the equipment has had to be restarted.

“During this process two flights had to be diverted to Malaga, one departing from Glasgow and the other one from Frankfurt. The airport is operating normally again.”

Transavia has been contacted for comment.
