Two police officers seriously hurt after weapon attack

A 25-year-old man was arrested after constables were attacked while dealing with a separate incident.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after two police officers were seriously assaulted in North Lanarkshire.

The response officers were dealing with a separate incident when they were approached by the 25-year-old in Greenfield Drive, Wishaw.

One of the constables, aged 24, suffered a serious injury to his hand caused by a bladed weapon. The other constable, aged 23, suffered a serious head injury.

Police Scotland said: “Both men were taken to University Hospital Wishaw where they remain in a stable condition.

“The 25-year-old has been arrested and enquiries remain ongoing.”
