A man and a woman have been taken to hospital after being struck by a van in Dumfries.

Emergency services were called to Buccleuch Street just after 3pm on Wednesday, following reports of a collision involving two pedestrians and a grey-coloured Vauxhall Vivaro van.

A 62-year-old man was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and later transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

A 61-year-old woman was also taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and later discharged.

The female driver of the van, aged 25, was uninjured in the incident.

The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out.

Sergeant Andy Hogg said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this serious crash and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened to please come forward.

 “I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to get in touch.”
